The biggest Social Entrepreneurs’ Network Event, the 2nd Asian Social Entrepreneurs Summit 2010 (ASES2010), had its closing ceremony on Tuesday the 30th November, in Seoul KyoYuk MunHua HoeKwan GuhMoonGo Hall at 3 p.m. About 200 Asian Social Entrepreneurs announced the ASES2010 Declaration. Participants all agreed that “We have gathered here to talk about the diverse poverty problems in 15 Asian countries, share and seek for the resolutions altogether.”, and that “We should be concerned not only of the visible material poverty, but also be concerned about inflicting mental poverty which is not visible. Social enterprises are here to prove that the poor are not mere subjects of assistance but also the potential main agents of their own economic activity.”

Participants of the Summit emphasized three aspects needed for development by Social Enterprises to help solve the poverty problem in Asia: promoting communal spirit in society, building up intimate cooperative systems that between various regions and nations while developing on existing networks and ideas, and creating an Asian type of Social Enterprise Model that can by itself give autonomy and creativity to share leadership.

The Keynote Speaker in the Closing Ceremony, Jae-Woong Ahn, Chairman of Dasomi Foundation, said “Social Enterprises will be widespread in contemporary society. Innovative social enterprises that attract the government, companies and citizen donors, will become more and more active.”

He cited Crutchfield Grant’s “The 6 Habits of Highly Effective Nonprofit Organizations”, which are: manage both policy activity and field activity at the same time, move the market, cultivate avid supporters, cooperate with other nonprofit organizations, deal with the problems perfectly and share the leadership. Ahn strongly encouraged participants to keep these words in their minds, as an aid to enhancing the value of Social Enterprise.

Lastly, Ahn quoting Michael Sandal’s three suggestions from his book: “Justice: What’s the Right Thing to Do? (1. Make a just society: 2. Maximize welfare and respect freedom; 3. Enhance virtue), and emphasized that social entrepreneurs should also reflect upon these values.
